Enjoying singing together Everybody sings! Whether it's in the bath, in the car or working round the house or the garden. It's
sheer pleasure
. but facing an audience, alone or in a group,
is something else
..
May
be there is a fear of showing a lack of musical skills ? Yet, one can sing without any musical knowledge, Music can be learnt while singing And what about sharing that enjoyment by singing in a group or in a choir, where all the voices blend and become an organised and structured sound mass ? |

A choir's business .. A choir is not just 20, 30 or 40 voices side by side but a well-knit togetherness where each register plays its part. Following the intention of the composer and the directives of the conductor, they listen and respond to each other. Music, breathing, emotion , enjoyment and sometimes nerves, are shared by all. This delicate alchemy often turns a concert into an unforgetable event. Singing in a group doesn't limit itself to singing during rehearsals, amongst yourselves ; it is also, presenting, giving and sharing one's work and pleasure with an audience of music lovers, amateurs or simply curious listeners. From 'a capella' to 'grand orchestra' concerts, each event is one of emotion shared by all and a source of pleasure and development.

One for all and all for one .. Each resgister has a vital and irreplaceable role to play under the direction of the conductor. His job is to put some order into what may seem to the novice like a complicated maze or even chaos. He is the one who brings together, organises and conducts the choir into expressing the music to its best. There must be great trust between conductor and singers so that the choir can fully express itself.

But
what is a chorister ?
|

A
chorister is a particular specie of singer, of gregarious nature, itself
divided into two sub-species : men and women, themselves further divided
according to characteristics.
Men
first ! Who knows why but men are more reluctant to sing in a choir.
Yet, tenors, barytones and bass are vital to the harmony of the choir.
Who can say they have never been moved by the sound of male voices so
present in many musical works. Women
find it easier to share their enjoyment in singing and many join choirs
with the soprani reaching the high notes that carry the melody whilst
the alti support and delicately enhance it, setting the mood. |
